Carpenter's Kitchen
Mission: To provide a hot meal each Sunday for the
people of Central Lubbock. Also, to provide spiritual food as
a means of outreach.

ROLES AND JOB DESCRIPTION
(1) Ministry Leader
People to organize and delegate all aspects of Carpenter's
Kitchen one week each month. This job would involve obtaining food
from the food bank, organizing the volunteer team in cooking,
setup, serving, etc...
Time commitment = One week each month

(2) Kitchen Manager
One to two people who would manage the facilities of
Carpenter's Kitchen. This job would be an organizational position
of materials as well as personnel and each weeks' activities and
volunteers.
Time commitment = A few hours each week

(3) Team Leaders
People to lead the volunteer teams each week. These people help
in the organization of these teams, as well as leading them in
communion.
Time commitment = One week per month

(4) Weekly Volunteers
Ten people each Sunday to arrive early (8:30 am) to prepare
food, set up tables, serve food, and clean up.
Time commitment = One week per quarter

(5) Adult Teacher and assistants
Two to three men (two assistants) to teach a consistent series
of lessons (four weeks) to the adult members of Carpenter's
Kitchen. Teachers should be there at 10:30 am to greet and welcome
the people. Service lasts from 11:00 to 11:30 with a focus on
appropriate teaching. Teachers should then remain and visit with
people during the meal. Assistants will focus on crowd control as
well as relationship building.
Time commitment = One month, bi-annually

(6) Children's Class Teacher and assistants
These teachers and assistants teach a series of lessons for
kids (two to four weeks). Also, they build relationships with the
kids as friends and role-models.

Food and Clothing Room
Mission: To provide the basic necessities of life (food
and clothing) to those in need. To, in the spirit of Jesus,
love in action. The clothing room is open on Tuesdays from
9:30 to 12:00 noon.

(1) Clothing room operations
Two volunteers per week to assist clients in selecting and
sacking clothing, recording information in a card file, and
showing kindness to those in need. These workers will work from
9:30 to 12:00 on Tuesdays and will be working in pairs.
Time commitment = One or two Tuesdays per month

(2) Clothing room organizers
Volunteers to sort through incoming clothing, rack in
appropriate place, restock when needed and straighten room
Time commitment = Flexible hours. May be done during open hours on
Tuesdays or any other time. Number of hours is volunteers' choice.

(3) Food room establishers (desired)
People to help establish a food room to be operated in
conjunction with the clothing room. At present no food room
exists. We need someone to collect, organize and oversee the
distribution of food to the needy. We need many to help in the
establishment of this ministry.
Time commitment = Initial time will be needed in establishing the
room. After establishment, time required will be much like clothing
room.

(4) Donation Organizers
People to donate canned or non-perishable foods, infant items
(diapers, powder, wipes), personal hygiene items (deodorant,
toothpaste, bushes, etc.).

(1) Ministry Leader
Someone to recruit, place, organize, and encourage ministry
personnel. The primary function will be to organize involved
people in accomplishing the task, not to do the task itself.
Time commitment = two hours per weeks off, more during host week

(2) Meal Coordinator
Seven people needed to prepare one day's food during the
hosting week (one evening meal, breakfast, and one sack lunch).
Will be prepared at home and delivered to the building or
"preferably" to be prepared along with the family being
hosted.

Financial commitment = One days food for one family, once a quarter

(3) Overnight Volunteers
Seven people to spend one night with the needy family at the
Broadway Youthreach building, to be a friend, encourage, and
comfort the family.

(4) Activity Coordinator
Seven people needed (could be the seven overnight volunteers)
to coordinate after school (5:30 - 8:30 PM) activity. Tutoring
school children, games, TV, etc.

(5) Logistics Coordinator
Someone needed to obtain and setup all needed supplies and
equipment (sheets, towels, dinnerware, first aid kit, toys, TV,
games, cribs, diapers, etc.) Beds and pillows will be provided by
the network. This person may need to construct privacy screens to
be placed in the Youthreach building.
Time commitment = Three hours in preparation and one hour per day
for one week each quarter
Financial commitment = possible construction costs

ROLES AND JOB DESCRIPTION
(1) Board Members
These volunteers serve by invitation on the Board of Directors
or the Executive Committee, bodies which oversee the
administration and function of the Home. Those desiring to serve
in this manner should express their interest to the President of
The Children's Home or to any of the current Board members.
Time commitment = One day per year in fund raising, four evenings
per year spent in meetings. Attendance at various events is
encouraged.
Financial commitment = Board members are expected to exercise a
leadership role in giving to the Home, according to their ability to
do so. In addition, Board members are asked to contribute $100 toward
the cost of the Founders Banquet each year.
Gifts = Administration, Mercy, Service
(2) Public Relations and Fund Raising
Individuals to assist with one or more of the following
activities that support the operations of the Home. Other
activities are needed, and volunteers may contact the Development
Department at the Home to inquire about other opportunities.
* Founders Banquet: Usually held in the summer to honor and
thank significant donors and special friends of the Home.
- The Chairman of the banquet works with staff at the Home to
plan speaker, location, caterer, entertainment, and other
logistics for the banquet.
- Committee members work with the chair in executing plans for
the banquet.
Time commitment = 10-20 hrs in planning meetings, 8 hrs in setting
up, attending, cleaning up after the banquet

* Fall Festival: Held in the early fall, this is a major fund
raiser which includes a barbecue, craft fair, children's carnival,
silent auction, and bake sale. A chairman and 8-10 volunteers are
needed for each of these events.
- Barbecue Committee will work with staff at the Home to plan
each event and to recruit and supervise volunteers in each area.
The Committee will also plan and oversee publicity for the event.
- Meal Committee members coordinate preparation, serving, and
clean-up of the meal. Will recruit and supervise volunteers in the
execution of these tasks.
- Craft Fair Committee will coordinate the solicitation of
craft vendors and set up and clean up of craft fair location.
- Children's Carnival Committee will plan, set up, execute, and
clean up games for children and recruit and supervise volunteers
for this event.
- Silent Auction Committee will solicit donations from
community vendors for items for the silent auction and recruit and
supervise volunteers to tag items and set up the auction, monitor
bidders during the auction, and tally purchases after the auction.
- Bake Sale Committee will solicit donations from area church
members for baked goods for the sale and will recruit and
supervise volunteers to pick up baked goods, set up the sale, sell
the goods, and clean up the site after the sale.
Time commitment = 10-20 hrs in planning meetings, 16 hrs in setting
up, attending, cleaning up after the festival

* Golf Tournament: Usually held in the spring. Volunteers are
needed to prepare for the tournament and to assist with activities
of the day.
- Tournament Chair will secure location, set date, coordinate
publicity for the event, recruit and supervise 5-6 volunteers to
assist with logistics on the day of the tournament.
- Sponsor Chair will secure prizes and sponsors for the event
and recruit and supervise 8-10 volunteers to assist.
- Hospitality Chair will plan and coordinate meal and
refreshments and recruit and supervise 8-10 volunteers to set up,
serve, and clean up on the day of the tournament.
Time commitment = 10-20 hrs in planning meetings, 5-6 hrs on the
day of the tournament

* Children's Home Sunday: Held on the first Sunday in December,
this is Broadway's special collection in support of the work at
The Children's Home of Lubbock.
- Committee members will plan and implement the activities of
this event in coordination with the President and Development
Department of the Home. They will schedule the event, coordinating
with the pulpit minister and the Worship Committee, plan publicity
and involvement of the children and youth of Broadway. A committee
chairman and 8-10 members are needed.
Time commitment = 20 hrs

(3) Children's Spiritual Development
Individuals and groups to help with the following ongoing
programs.
* Monday Night Devotions: Individuals and groups are invited to
assist with the planning of devotional periods and/or help with an
activity before or after the devotional.
Time commitment = 2-3 hrs weekly
Gifts = Pastor/Shepherd, Evangelism, Mercy
* Images: Ladies are needed to plan and present a monthly
program for teen girls.
Time commitment = 4-5 hrs
Financial commitment = As the programs require

* Impact: Men are needed to work with the Coordinator of
Spiritual Development to prepare and present monthly programs for
teen boys.

* Cottage Friends: Individuals or groups to adopt a cottage to
provide encouragement and support to the children and staff of
that cottage. Activities may include household help with laundry

kitchen shower to replace supplies, preparation of casseroles to
supplement meals.

a financial sponsor who helps with the needs of one child, or as a

these people would be responsible to maintain contact with Beth
Pratt at the Avalanche Journal and supply her with information and
articles when needed.
Time commitment = One year with time needed each month for
collecting and distributing needed announcements to the public

(2) Community special activities coordinator
People to organize and coordinate special community activities
for Broadway such as Lights on Broadway and Fourth on Broadway

One or two people to build an appropriate Web Page for the
Broadway church which could highlight the ministries and

One person to maintain a bulletin board in the Historical Hall.
This bulletin board displays past and current newsletters from
Broadway supported missionaries and other missionaries of
significant interest to Broadway members. Responsibilities include
keeping the board updated with current information and pictures.

(3) Missions Special Contributions Coordinators
People to facilitate the Missions Special. A significant
portion of the funds used by the Missions programs are raised in a
special congregational contribution the first Sunday of May each
year. Much effort is made to inform the congregation of this
event. This information includes such things as: (1) the amount of
contribution needed, (2) updating the congregation on current
activities of missionaries, (3) special needs of each missionary,
(4) Historical Hall decorating. Typically the special contribution
has a theme or central idea that is expressed through banners,
letters and children's activities.
Time commitment = Many meetings for 4 months before the
contribution

(4) Christian Life Newsletter Publisher/Editor
Someone to publish and edit the Christian Life Newsletter. This
is a 4-8 page newspaper published semi-annually to update the
congregation on missions and activities of our missionaries at
their mission points. Responsibilities would include writing and
recruiting other writers, obtaining photographs, editing and
layout responsibilities of the paper. Also responsible for
printing and distributing within the church.
Time commitment = Substantial, for two years
Financial commitment = Possibly some out-of- pocket expenses. Major
expenses are in the Missions budget.

Talents = Writing, Editing, Printing & Publishing Knowledge
(5) Children's Coordinator
Someone to assist the Missions Special Coordinators in
disseminating missions information to the children through the
Sunday morning and Wednesday night Bible classes. The children are
recruited to help raise money by special children's contribution
specifically for the missionaries. This role also may include
mission-centered bulletin boards in each children's department.
Time commitment = Substantial, for two years

(6) Adult Class Liaison
Someone to be responsible for disseminating missions related
information to his/her adult Sunday morning Bible class. Many
Bible classes have "adopted" missionaries not directly
sponsored by the Broadway congregation. It would be this person's
responsibility to inform the missions committee of on-going
missions efforts in their class, so that the missions committee
can assist and celebrate these efforts.
Time commitment = Two years

(7) Executive Committee Member
People to assist in over-seeing, nurturing, and encouraging our
current missions efforts. They will also be needed to plan and
over-see potential and new mission points. These activities
include everything involved in the missions effort such as
budgeting and planning, visiting and corresponding with our
missionaries, and dealing with any issues that may arise from time
to time.
Time commitment = Four or five meetings yearly, preferably for many
years. Consistency and stability are important to this ministry.

Someone who can secure teachers, supply any materials needed,
and communicate the vision of the ministry to those who work in
it.

rotation. More importantly, a willingness to develop of friendship
with adults who attend.
