Dear Broadway Family,
My office door is open as I type. The usually overworked air
conditioner has been switched off, and I am enjoying the cooler
"monsoon" air from outside. In between pecks on the
computer and sips
of my hot chai (Kenyan tea), I watch and smell and listen to the
slow,
tropical rain drizzling through the mango tree. Other than the
rain,
the main sound you can hear is the croaking of the frogs. One of
them
has learned the fine art of positioning himself in the drain pipe,
thus
making his croak resonate about 10 times it's normal volume. I'm
sure
he must be surrounded by many lovely female frogs who are
appreciating
his new found talent....... This is one of those sweet magical
coastal
moments that I am privileged to enjoy quite often.
Just a few hours ago, while you were praying and singing and giving
to the mission special, I was in the air between Nairobi and
Mombassa,
returning from a board meeting for our Nairobi Great Commission
School.
(I switched my travel plans from train to plane, hoping that I
could
make it to Kilifi in time to be there for the scheduled phone
call.....it didn't work.) So, while you were worshipping there, I
was
at 30,000 ft. gazing out my window at Mount Kilimanjaro in nearby
Tanzania. It was barely visible because of the waning sunlight, but
even then I was mesmerized by it's enormity and beauty. Another A+
for
God. And again I enjoyed the privilege of one of those magical
African
moments that only those who have been here can appreciate.
And the great part about all of this is that these wonderful
feelings brought on by the aesthetic splendor of tropical rain and
equatorial mountains don't even compare with the spiritual joys of
witnessing God's Spirit change people's lives. Just this last week
I
have had the pleasure of watching three people be immersed into
Christ.
Many more are becoming Christians, new churches are being planted,
Christian education and Bible teaching are on the increase. Suffice
it
to say, we are happy living in Kenya and doing what we are doing.
We
thank God often for the opportunity you give us to be here involved
in
the Spirit's work. We truly feel as though we are the most blessed
of
all missionaries. We are grateful for the partnership we share with
you......a spiritual fellowship that I am confident is neither
magical
or fleeting. Thank you again for your love and commitment to us and
to
this work. Thanks for giving of your time, energy and money. It
means
so much to so many. It is indeed a great blessing and sweet
privilege
to be part of the work of God with the Broadway family.
as ever,
Tim Talley & family
