Talley Kenya Update

Dear Broadway Family,
We wanted to give you a few highlights of our last month.  We appreciate your love and support.

LAND CRUISER
We sure are enjoying our new Land Cruiser.  Even though it isn't new, it is new to us and it is in great shape.  It is currently in the shop being fitted with roof rack, bull bar, and running boards,.... all the extra little things that make it even more functional as a missionary rig. Thanks so much to all of you who made this possible.

JIM BECK & CO.
We had a great three weeks with our ex team mate Jim Beck and the students that he brought with him from LCU and Texas Tech.  Jim taught a 5 day course on Romans at Uzima Christian Training Center in Malindi.  He had 13 students in his English class and we had a further 30 students in the Kiswahili class.  It was a nice reunion week for Jim and the many Christians whose lives he touched while here as a missionary.  It is always good to have Jim back.  His students were able to visit several congregations and even spend several nights with host Christian families.  We hope they got a good picture of what mission work in Africa is about.

TANGA, TANZANIA
A very useful survey trip was made into Tanzania during the last week of May.  Jim Beck and I took his missions students to Tanga, Tanzania, a city with a population of 200,000 and a good location for a possible new mission team. Tanga is only 100 miles south of us here in Mombasa.

DROUGHT CAUSES ELECTRICITY RATIONING
Despite the fact that it has been raining  here on the coast, most of the rest of East Africa is experiencing a very serious drought.  This "La Nina" weather has caused a severe shortage of water in upcountry hydro-electric dams and this has forced the government to implement rationing of electricity.  Our power is being cut every day, sometimes as long as 12 hours at a time. Needless to say, we are all having to make a few adjustments. Our slight discomfort at times is minuscule compared to that of  countless thousands, maybe millions who will probably need food relief from the government.  We will keep you posted on this situation as it will surely hit the coast later on in the year.

THANKS
Thanks again for the generous outpouring of love seen through the success of last month's mission special contribution.  Your giving means so much to so many.  May God bless you all.

                                                 as ever,   Tim & Family
