The Talley Family.
Sweet Fellowship.
Yes, That’s The Book For Me.
All Smiles. Love Your Enemies. Baptismal Lifeguards.
Tim, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Deborah and Abigail.
Rebecca and Adhiambo at a Bible study.
Duruma Christians at the church in Chigato celebrate the completion of the first issue of the New Testament translated into the Duruma language. The Duruma tribe is a sister tribe to the Giriama.
Though Abigail is the only American in her primary school, she’s happy and fits in well. Margaret Kihara is not a Giriama. She’s a Kikuyu, historically an enemy tribe of the Giriama. Yet she is giving her life in service to the Girama, working with the youth and widows of the Malindi church. She is very much loved.. Few Giriama women know how to swim and many have never been in water deeper than their shins. This frightened woman is assisted by two friends as she is baptized into Christ.

Two Old Codgers. Broadening Horizons. Weaker Vessels Made Stronger. One Stick At A Time. You Can’t Make Me Smile. Saturday Night At The Movies
Mwangudza and Skuli were two worldly old men who had experienced just about everything. Now they are babes in Christ at the new church at Musumarini. Uzima Chrisitan Training Center will soon be offering computer classes to help young people obtain a little keyboard education. Mike Karabu (standing) will be heading up the computer school. Seated is Moses Mwingo, one of the directors of UCTC. These women walked 5 or 6 miles with babies on their back to attend a one-day women’s seminar. Women are generally so eager for spiritual food and fellowship that they will go great distances to get it. Emmanuel Mweni works on the church building at Kaoyeni. These Duruma women would not smile for the camera, though they broke into laughter as soon as the picture was taken. Moses Mwinga, Daniel Chengo and a Christian from the Chilulu congregation set up the movie projector and generator to show the “Jesus” film to a crowd of several hundred. The movie projector was donated to the work by a Christian in Midland, Texas.

Two New Christians. SSB Project. Hungering And Thirsting. Here Is Water. Come To The Church In The Wildwood. Block Courses.
Moses Mwinga (right) sits with a husband and wife whom he taught and who have just been baptized. Daniel Kahindi is the man in charge of the Stabilized Soil Block project. He helps churches build low budget buildings that they can afford. Robinson Mweri and Charo Luwali are studying the book of Acts on the front steps of the church building. Simeon Nazi baptizes a woman into Christ. It’s Sunday morning at Kadzanda Kama Fisi (meaning the deserted place of the hyena) and people are coming for worship. These church leaders have come to the training center for a full week of intense Bible study.

Mwinga Family. Chengo Family. After Church Picture. Urban Renewal. Fixing Sunday Lunch Got New Jobs.
Moses Mwinga, his wife, Tabitha, and their 8 children. Daniel Chengo, his wife, Lois, and their 5 children. Steven Ngumbao, with his wife and 5 of their 10 children stand outside the Bore (pronounced bor-ray) Church of Christ. The Mombasa churches are experiencing a renewal of fellowship with each other – something that has been lacking in recent years. There have also been 3 new churches planted in different parts of the city this past year. Some sweet ladies start working on an after-church meal that probably won’t be ready until 4 p.m. Karabu wa Heke used to be a palm wine tapper who was usually drunk with his wares. His wife was a witchdoctor who said she could tell fortunes by talking to an evil spirit in a gourd. It’s been over 10 years since they became Christians and found new ways to spend their time.

One On One. That They may Teach Others. I Know The Answer! I Know The Answer! Got The Tune, Just Can’t Get The Beat. A Cup Of Tea? Hand In Hand.
Tim and Rueben Jamasi discuss some of the problems facing families in urban Kenya. Tim teaches a block course to church leaders at the Uzima Christian Training Center. This picture of these young boys at Sunday school at the Malindi church was taken about 8 years ago. Now they are young men who are preaching and leading singing. The children from the Chilulu church sing a song for the congregation. Abigail enjoyed singing with them, but just didn’t inherit any rhythm from her parents. Kevin, Abigail and Diana take a break from play at a church fellowship to enjoy a hot cup of tea.

Abigail finds a friend to guide her down unfamiliar streets.

Let The Children Come To Me. Just Me And My Pals. Deb And Company. No Problem For Prayer In School. Sometimes You Gotta Eat What You Don’t Want To Eat. Sometimes You Gotta Do What You Don’t Want To Do.
Elizabeth, Deb, and Abigail with the Sunday School class at Dalajan. While at school it would be difficult to tell that Abigail is an American. She uses an African accent and her vocabulary is sprinkled with Swahili and Arabic words. However, here the LCU cap is a dead give away. Deborah poses with her best friends, Nyawira (left), Omazi and Sheena. Elizabeth poses with her school’s Bible study group. Though Christians of any kind are in the minority among the mostly Hindu and Muslim students and staff, prayer is encouraged. Tim contemplates a plate of stir fried caterpillars offered to him. Crunchy on the outside, gooey on the inside! A Giriama Christian holds Tim’s hand as he walks him to the car. Holding hands with members of the same sex is a sign of friendship and comradeship in Africa.

All four families of the Kenya Coast mission team are supported by Lubbock churches. (1-r) Ginger Swift (supported by Vandelia), Jill Moudy (supported by Broadway), Brittney McKinney (supported by Sunset) and Rebecca Talley (supported by Broadway. With the owners and headmaster of Coast Academy looking on, Rebecca digs the first hole at the official ground breaking ceremony for new facilities at the school. The Talley girls attend Coast Academy. Ladies from one of the Mombasa churches enjoy seeing themselves on a video camera. Tim and his girls explore the maze of narrow roads in Stone Town. Karisa Kuto baptizes a brother into Christ at Mabaya Nyundo. Leaders studying at the Uzima Christian Training Center.
